The València metro card: TSC, SUMA and Móbilis

Which card to buy, what the plastic costs, what goes on it and where to top it up. ATMV prices in force since 1 July 2025.

What the card actually is

The card is paid for separately from the ticket

The TSC — a contactless card — entitles you to no journey at all: it is the plastic or the cardboard the ticket is written onto. You buy it once, top it up as often as you like, and you can switch to a different ticket once the last one runs out.

In València you buy two separate things: the ticket — the journey, the carnet or the pass — and the card it is written onto. The card is the TSC, a contactless card, and its price is not included in the ticket.

There are two families and they are easy to mix up. The Metrovalencia TSC carries FGV’s own tickets — the TuiN purse, the Gent Major, the Mobilitat — which are valid on the metro and tram only. The SUMA card from the ATMV carries the integrated tickets — SUMA 10, SUMA Mensual, Móbilis — which are also valid on EMT buses, MetroBus, Renfe Cercanías and the town services of Paterna and Sagunto.

The price of the ticket does NOT include the card. The TSC (Tarjeta Sin Contacto, contactless card) is the usual card a ticket is written onto; it comes in cardboard or plastic (PVC) and can be reused, either to top up the same ticket or to load a different one once the last has run out.

Cards do expireMetrovalencia cards do expire: PVC TSCs after 5 years and cardboard ones after 3. Past that point they take no further top-ups, although you can keep using them until the ticket on them runs out. It is the figure almost nobody publishes, and the one that explains why an old card stops taking top-ups even though it looks perfectly fine.

What you can load onto it

TicketWhere it is validFrom
TuiN (Metrovalencia purse)FGV metro and tram€0.80 per journey in 1 zone
SUMA 10 (10 journeys)Metro, EMT, MetroBus, Cercanías and town services€9.00 for the 1-zone carnet
SUMA MensualThe same, for 30 days running€35.00 a month in 1 zone

TuiN is validated on the way in and on the way out on the metro, and only on the way in on the tram; the minimum top-up is €5.00. SUMA 10 is topped up ten journeys at a time, up to thirty, and each journey includes one transfer, in one direction only. The full list of tickets and prices, with the temporary reduction, is on tickets and fares.

Where to buy it and top it up

At the ticket machines in the stations, which is what the photograph shows, and at the ticket offices where there are any. Personalised cards are also applied for on the ATMV website, with home delivery for €1.00 more.

We do not publish the list of tobacconists and other outside sales points: it changes, and we have no open source that keeps it up to date.

Questions about the card

Not for a single journey: a Sencillo ticket from the machine will do. The card pays off as soon as you travel more than once, because it is what lets you load a TuiN or a SUMA, which bring the price per journey right down.
The anonymous card costs €1.10 in cardboard and €2.20 in plastic; the personalised one, €4.40. These are prices from the ATMV fare annex, and they do not include any journey.
Metrovalencia cards do expire: PVC TSCs after 5 years and cardboard ones after 3. Past that point they take no further top-ups, although you can keep using them until the ticket on them runs out.
No. The TSC carries Metrovalencia’s own tickets; the SUMA carries the ATMV’s integrated ones, which also work on buses and on Cercanías. The plastic looks much the same; what changes is what you can load onto it.
That depends on the ticket, not on the card. A TuiN covers up to 60 people travelling together and a SUMA 10 up to 15; a monthly pass is personal.
