L6 is a tram line linking the northern neighbourhoods of València, Torrefiel and els Orriols, with the Poblats Marítims, the old seafront districts, in 21 stops. It starts at Tossal del Rei, runs down through Rascanya to Trinitat, follows avenida de los Naranjos past the Universitat Politècnica and the Tarongers campuses, then enters the Cabanyal, goes round the beach loop and ends at Marítim.

It shares its track with L4 from Trinitat to Dr. Lluch, and with L8 between Grau – La Marina and Marítim. You can change to the metro at Benimaclet, for L3 and L9, and at Marítim, for L5 and L7.

Counted at Alfauir over the full timetable. A value of 4 means one tram every fifteen minutes in each direction.

The beach loop

It is the quirk of this part of the network, and the operator’s list of stops does not show it: it flattens it into a straight list.

The one-way beach loop

Trams always run round this ring in the same direction and come back to where they started; there is no service in the opposite direction.

Cabanyal is served only in the direction Dr. Lluch → La Cadena. Platja Malva-rosa and Platja les Arenes only in the opposite direction, after leaving La Cadena. To get from Cabanyal to either of the two Platja stops you have to go all the way round the loop.

History

A young line, it opened all in one go on 27 September 2007, between Tossal del Rei and Marítim, using from Trinitat onwards the track that L4 had been running on since 1994. It gave Torrefiel and els Orriols back a rail link they had in the days of the old trenet, when the Rafelbuñol line ran at street level along what is now avinguda d’Alfauir.

The route was laid out to follow the street plan: it leaves Conde de Lumiares, takes avenida de los Hermanos Machado, has two stops on San Vicente de Paúl, runs down Alfauir and joins the existing track at Trinitat. The most visible change since then has been to the signs, not the route. Several stops now carry a different name from the one they opened with: Mediterrani is now Canyamelar, Estadi del Llevant became Estadi Ciutat de València, Primat Reig became Trinitat and Grau Canyamelar became Grau – La Marina. FGV publishes no historical list of these changes; they are known from unofficial sources and from OpenStreetMap tags. The 2024 floods stopped the line between 30 October and 8 November, and its previous frequencies returned on 7 January 2025.

The service

The timetable lists 1,191 runs, and a good share of them do not go the whole way: 296 turn back at Tarongers – Ernest Lluch, adding capacity on the campus section, and 91 end at Beteró, next to the depot on avenida de los Naranjos. The rest run through to Marítim, calling at every stop. In the morning rush hour, counted at Alfauir, there are about six trams an hour in each direction; on Saturdays and Sundays the service drops to roughly half that. As on the rest of the network, on Friday and Saturday nights the service runs on into the early hours, and on Sunday it starts later. Even so, it is one of the lines with the most runs on the network: only the tram lines L4 and L10 have more.

The trams

The trams run at street level for the whole route, sharing the road and the traffic lights, and take about 32 minutes from end to end according to the timetable. At the Cabanyal end the route stops being symmetrical: the track forms a one-way loop, so the way back uses different stops from the way out. Bear that in mind when planning your return trip from the beach.

Frequently asked questions

Because there are two short services. About 296 runs in the timetable turn back at Tarongers – Ernest Lluch, to add capacity around the Universitat Politècnica and the campuses, and 91 end at Beteró, which is next to the depot. The rest do run all the way to Marítim.

From Trinitat to Dr. Lluch, which means the whole of avenida de los Naranjos and the Cabanyal. On that section both lines use the same stops, apart from some differences on the beach loop, and either one will take you towards the sea.

The network’s signs were renewed: Mediterrani became Canyamelar, Estadi del Llevant became Estadi Ciutat de ValènciaES, Primat Reig became Trinitat and Grau Canyamelar became Grau – La Marina. FGV does not publish a history of names, so these changes are known from unofficial sources.

It has 21, from Marítim to Tossal del Rei, and 16 of them are interchanges with another line.
It is a tram line. FGV says so on its own page of figures: of the ten Metrovalencia lines, six are metro (L1, L2, L3, L5, L7 and L9) and four are tram (L4, L6, L8 and L10). They share fares, the map and interchange stations, so for travelling it makes no difference; what changes is the vehicle and, on the tram, the fact that the route runs at street level.
From Monday to Thursday, between 05:19 and 23:50. On Saturday it runs from 05:16 to 02:43 and on Sunday from 06:41 to 23:47: on Friday and Saturday service carries on into the early hours. These are the earliest and latest times at any stop on the line; each stop page gives its own.
FGV publishes 3.571 km. Note: that figure counts only the line’s own track, not the section it shares with L4 and L6, so it is shorter than the distance between its two termini.
Because the seaside end is a one-way loop: Canyamelar, Dr. Lluch, Cabanyal, La Cadena, Platja Malva-rosa and Platja les Arenes form a ring that trams always run in the same direction. Cabanyal is served in the direction Dr. Lluch → La Cadena and the two Platja stops in the opposite direction.
