L10 is the newest line on Metrovalencia, and a tram line: it opened on 17 May 2022 and runs for about 5 km between Alacant, near the Grandes Vías, and Natzaret, to the south. Of its eight stops, the first three (Alacant, Russafa and Amado Granell – Montolivet) are underground; from there to the end they are at street level, on a reserved track.

Along the way it serves Russafa, Montolivet, the Quatre Carreres district, the Ciutat de la Justícia (law courts), the City of Arts and Sciences, the Oceanogràfic and the Natzaret neighbourhood. It is the only line on the network that shares no stop with the others, so it works as an island on the map: within Metrovalencia there is no way to change from L10 to another line.

A line with no interchange

Line 10 shares no stop with the other nine Metrovalencia lines: in the official timetable there is no way to change from L10 to another line without going out into the street. Alacant stop is about 180 metres in a straight line from Bailén (L7), and Russafa about 700 from Colón, but FGV publishes neither link as an interchange and gives them no time. Our route planner says so: it warns you and gives the two legs separately, without inventing the walking minutes.

History

The project did not start out under this name: it was drawn up as line T2, a tram meant to link Orriols with Natzaret through the city centre, in three sections. The northern one, from Tossal del Rei to Pont de Fusta, is in service today and used by L4 and L6. The central one, from Pont de Fusta to Alacant, was to be bored by tunnelling machine thirty metres below the historic centre and the old riverbed; all that was ever built of it is the box for the Mercat Central station. The southern section is today’s line.

That southern section opened on 17 May 2022 and brought rail back to Natzaret 65 years later: the neighbourhood had had its own station since 1912, with services to Jesús, until the 1957 flood destroyed the installations. Work had begun in 2007, was halted in 2011 for lack of funds and resumed in 2019. In March 2021 FGV’s management said the central section had been practically ruled out, and in February of the same year an extension from Natzaret to the port was announced. The 2024 floods interrupted the service from 30 October to 8 November.

The service

With 1,852 runs in the timetable and only eight stops, it is one of the busiest lines on the network, but the service is split in two: 840 runs turn back at Ciutat Arts i Ciències – Justícia and do not continue to Natzaret, so the northern section gets a good deal more service than the southern one. In the morning rush hour, counted at Amado Granell – Montolivet, there are about eight trams an hour in each direction, and about six at weekends. On Friday and Saturday nights the service runs on into the early hours, as on the rest of the network, and on Sunday it starts an hour later. In 2024 it carried 2,795,708 passengers.

The trams

The trams take about 16 minutes to cover the whole line according to the timetable, and they do it in two different ways: in tunnel between Alacant and Amado Granell – Montolivet, with platforms one above the other at Russafa, and at street level on reserved track to Natzaret, where the line ends in a dead end next to a temporary depot. The whole line has the ATP safety system, like most of the network.

Frequently asked questions

Because in the original plan it was a tram from Orriols to Natzaret through the centre, labelled T2. When the network was reorganised in 2015, number 2 was kept for today’s metro line L2, and the tram project became L10. Of the planned route, only the southern section is in service.

There have been announcements, not finished works. In February 2021 an extension from Natzaret to the port was announced; in March that year FGV’s management said the central section had been practically ruled out, and in February 2024 it was announced that the design of the pedestrian tunnel would be changed so that it could serve as a rail tunnel towards Xàtiva. None of these connections exists on the published network today.

No. Of the 1,852 runs in the timetable, 840 turn back at Ciutat Arts i Ciències – Justícia, so the section between that stop and Natzaret has about half the service of the rest of the line. The platforms and the tables for each stop show each tram’s destination.

It has 8, from Alacant to Natzaret, and 0 of them are interchanges with another line.
It is a tram line. FGV says so on its own page of figures: of the ten Metrovalencia lines, six are metro (L1, L2, L3, L5, L7 and L9) and four are tram (L4, L6, L8 and L10). They share fares, the map and interchange stations, so for travelling it makes no difference; what changes is the vehicle and, on the tram, the fact that the route runs at street level.
From Monday to Thursday, between 05:41 and 23:38. On Saturday it runs from 05:50 to 02:52 and on Sunday from 06:50 to 23:42: on Friday and Saturday service carries on into the early hours. These are the earliest and latest times at any stop on the line; each stop page gives its own.
FGV publishes 5 km.
Not within Metrovalencia: none of its eight stops is shared with another line, so there is no interchange. Its Alacant stop is about 180 m in a straight line from Bailén, but FGV does not publish that as an interchange or give it a time, so the route planner does not count it either: it warns you and gives the two legs separately.
