Metrovalencia Line 5
From the airport to the port underground: 18 stations and not one of its own — every one is shared with other lines.
About Line 5
Line 5 links Aeroport with Marítim along 13.293 km of route that is entirely underground. All 18 of its stations are shared: it has not a single station of its own, which is true of no other line on the network.
Between Alameda and Aeroport it runs with Line 3, and as far as Roses with Line 9 as well; between Alameda and Marítim it shares the tunnel with Line 7. At Àngel Guimerà you can change to lines 1 and 2, and at Marítim, its eastern terminus, to the trams of lines 6 and 8, which carry on to the Grau and the beach.

Counted at Alameda over the full timetable. A value of 4 means one train every fifteen minutes in each direction.
History
It opened on 30 April 2003 with a 2.3 km tunnel heading east from Alameda and three new stations: Aragó, Amistat and Ayora, which was then the end of the line. At the same time it began using the service branch between Colón and Jesús built for Line 3. On that branch the underground station of Torrent Avinguda opened on 22 September 2004, more central than the surface one, followed by Bailén on 3 October 2005.
April 2007 brought two key pieces: the Marítim interchange, designed to link the metro with the port tram, and the 4.9 km section between Mislata Almassil and the airport, which replaced the service previously provided by the C-4 line of Renfe Cercanías (commuter rail). The reorganisation of 6 March 2015 changed everything: the branch from Marítim to Torrent Avinguda was split off as Line 7 and the port tram as Line 8, leaving Line 5 with its original route and no stations of its own. The 2024 floods left it without service between 30 October and 2 December, and in the summers of 2025 and 2026 the section between Aragó and Marítim was closed for improvement works.
The service
The timetable lists 1,046 runs and the pattern is simple: only 102 turn back at Alameda, and the rest run the full line from end to end. Counted at that same station, there are about 2.7 trains an hour in each direction in the morning rush hour, and about 2.3 at weekends. Those figures look low on their own, but they are misleading: in the central tunnel these trains add to those of lines 3, 7 and 9, so if you are waiting at Xàtiva or Colón you will see many more trains than just your own line’s. On Friday and Saturday nights the service runs on into the early hours.
The trains
As on Line 3, the first trains were the 1995 UTE units of the 3900 series, and today 4300-series trains run on it. Between Marítim and Ayora and between Alameda and Avinguda del Cid the power supply is a rigid conductor rail fixed to the tunnel roof; elsewhere it is a conventional overhead wire. The tunnel between Marítim and Alameda is double-track and shared with Line 7; west of Alameda it becomes single-track and circular in section.
Frequently asked questions
Because it lost its branches in 2015. Until then it ran to Torrent Avinguda and to the port; with the reorganisation of 6 March that year those two routes became lines 7 and 8, and what was left — Aeroport to Marítim — runs entirely through tunnels shared with other lines.
It is now Line 8. It opened in April 2007 as the tram section of Line 5 between Marítim and Neptú, and became a line in its own right in the 2015 reorganisation, together with the branch that became Line 7.
For improvement works on the infrastructure. The closure was repeated over two summers: from 27 June to 31 August 2025 and from 25 June to 30 August 2026. It also affected Line 7, which shares that tunnel.
