Empalme station
Empalme does not serve a large population: its job is a different one. It lies beside calle Antonio Maura in Burjassot, next to the northern ring road (Bulevar Norte, CV-30) and close to the CV-35, and it exists mainly so that metro and tram can meet. It has four tracks for passenger trains, plus one for stabling trams and another that works as a loop for turning round. This is also where the metro routes split: Line 1 branches off north-east towards BéteraES and Line 2 carries on north towards Llíria.
The junction goes back a long way: from 1891 it handled the meeting of the metre-gauge line between València-Pont de Fusta and Llíria with the branch to Bétera (its name means “junction”). On 8 October 1988, when the underground section opened, it was renamed Ademús and became a through station on lines 1 and 2 and the terminus of line 4. It got the name Empalme back in 1998, and in March 2001 it was redesigned as an interchange between metro, tram and the EMT and MetroBús buses. It is one of the four stations the operator counts twice, as it has two numbers attached to different platforms.

What is near Empalme
The surroundings are infrastructure rather than neighbourhood: tracks, roads and the Bulevar Norte alongside. Open data records very little within 400 m, just the archaeological site of Las lenguas del Raig, about 60 m away, and the Parque Albán shopping centre, about 233 m away. Nearly all the activity at the station is people changing between lines or to the EMT and MetroBús buses, and drivers arriving from the northern approaches of the metropolitan area.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, for a decade. On 8 October 1988, when the underground section to Sant Isidre opened, the name Empalme was replaced by Ademús, and the station became a through stop on lines 1 and 2 and the terminus of line 4. The original name came back in 1998.
A halt created when Line 4 was extended to Lloma Llarga-Terramelar in December 2005, because a new turning loop could not be built to serve that section. It was no longer needed once the double-ended Series 4200 trams arrived, which since 2007 have covered the route without having to turn round, and the stop was closed.
