Alameda station
Alameda is dug into the old bed of the Turia, level with the paseo de la Alameda and directly beneath the Exposition Bridge (puente de la Exposición), popularly known as the Peineta (“comb”) bridge. It was designed by Santiago Calatrava and has four tracks served by one island platform and two side platforms: tracks 1 and 2 are for Line 5 and Line 7 trains, and tracks 3 and 4 for Line 3 and Line 9 trains. Some Line 5 services terminate here.
It opened on 5 May 1995 with the rest of the Line 3 stations between Rafelbunyol and this point, and was the line’s terminus until the 1998 extension towards Avinguda del Cid. On 30 April 2003 Line 5 opened, its first section starting right here. It also hides a curiosity: at the fork in the tunnels towards Colón there is a figure of Saint Barbara, placed in 1994 during the tunnelling and not discovered until 2013, when a passenger photographed it.
