Bailén metro station
Line 7 · Zone A · Extramurs
Bailén station
Bailén opened on 3 October 2005 beneath the street it is named after, in the Roqueta neighbourhood, part of the Extramurs district. It was conceived as an interchange, and that is still its reason for being: linking the metro with the Renfe Cercanías commuter services that leave from the Estació del Nord, about 378 m from its entrances.
It was built on the underground branch that then linked lines 1 and 5 between Colón and Jesús. When the network was reorganised, that branch became Line 7, the only line that stops here. That is unusual right in the centre: both neighbouring stations are shared by several lines, yet only one line’s service runs through Bailén’s platforms.

Frequently asked questions
Because it is served by only one line. Colón and Jesús, the stations on either side, are shared by several lines and so add up the service of all of them; at Bailén, the interval between trains is that of a single line. The timetable on this page shows it direction by direction.
After the street under which it was built, in the Roqueta neighbourhood. The name has nothing to do with the railway station it connects with: that is the Estació del Nord, about 378 m away, and Bailén was designed specifically to link up with it.
