On the beach loopLa Cadena is on the one-way beach loop, which trams always run in the same direction. Here there is service in both directions of the line, but the neighbouring stops on the loop are served one way only: the diagram below shows where trams pass going out and where they pass coming back.
What FGV does not list hereFGV's list of stations does not include Line 8 among the lines of this stop, and the line page does not include it either. The official timetable does have services of that line that stop here — only a few a day (1 on L8 on the busiest day), almost all at the start or the end of the day. The times in the table are the published timetable, but they are not a regular service of that line: to plan a journey, count on the lines that FGV does list at this stop, which are the ones the route planner uses.

La Cadena opened on 21 May 1994, when the Line 4 tram began running, on avenida de los Naranjos, already inside the Poblats Marítims district. The site had a railway past: very close by was a stop on the line linking València-Pont de Fusta with the Grao, closed in 1990 because of its ruinous state and later converted into today’s tram corridor. The operator does not publish opening dates, so treat this chronology as a guide only.

This is where Line 4 and Line 6 stop behaving like an ordinary two-way line. La Cadena is the gateway to the beach loop, which trams always run in the same direction: they head into it towards Platja Malva-rosa, continue through Platja les Arenes, Canyamelar and Dr. Lluch, pass Cabanyal and come back through La Cadena before carrying on inland towards Beteró. So the same tram stops here twice, once on entering the loop and once on leaving it.

How the beach loop works

The one-way beach loop

Trams always run round this ring in the same direction and come back to where they started; there is no service in the opposite direction.

Cabanyal is served only in the direction Dr. Lluch → La Cadena. Platja Malva-rosa and Platja les Arenes only in the opposite direction, after leaving La Cadena. To get from Cabanyal to either of the two Platja stops you have to go all the way round the loop.

Interchanges and connections

  • Tram: you can change here between Line 4, Line 6 and Line 8 without leaving the stop: FGV numbers it as a single facility.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, but not the short way. The final stretch by the beach is a one-way loop, and from La Cadena trams can only enter it towards Platja Malva-rosa. To get to Cabanyal you have to go all the way round the loop, calling first at Platja les Arenes, Canyamelar and Dr. Lluch.

Yes. In the published Line 4 timetable, 63 trams turn back here instead of running round the beach loop; the rest carry on towards Platja Malva-rosa and complete it. It is one of three points where the line short-turns services, along with Empalme and Vicent Andrés Estellés.

La Cadena is served by Line 4, Line 6 and Line 8 (tram).
